Which pub does Benedict Cumberbatch drink in?

I fill my cup with as large a measure of amusement as the world can provide, fond as I am of a good chuckle. Every now and then, the WordPress search engine will provide just the right dose.

There is a lady out there, so desirous of meeting the elusive Batch, that she decided to take things into her own hands and seek him out at all Englishmen’s favourite watering hole: the pub. I can’t help but admire her tenacity and feel a little guilty in her supposed disappointment when Google thought it would be a lark to send her to my blog instead. Try typing “Which pub does Benedict Cumberbatch drink in” into the search engine and you’ll see what I mean.

Benedict may very well have patronised Soho’s “the Lab” in the past. I wouldn’t know. Perhaps our lady will be lucky to synchronise her visit with Hollywood’s darling. After all, stranger things have happened.

Having had my laugh for the day, I am rather in the mood for a good deed. So what do you say, dear readers. Shall we help this vixen find her crush?

Benedict Cumberbatch having a drink at the Roundhouse in London

Dear Anonymous,

If you are reading this, then you have not yet given up on discovering Benedict’s favourite pub. I’m afraid I can’t help you with specifics, although if you happen to be in London, you could always give pub crawling in Hampstead a try. I hear they have some delightful ales and a predilection for auburn-haired clientele 😉 . I would recommend half-measures if you plan on doing the job thoroughly or else I will be accused of encouraging irresponsible drinking.

Best of luck with the hunt!

  1. Visiting from Holistic Wayfarer’s site, where you liked a post on race featuring me. Thanks.

    Best regards,
    Elizabeth

    • Thank you so much, Beth. So good to hear from you. Whenever I find something to smile about, I can’t wait to share it so that it may bring a little laughter to the world. Glad I managed it and hope you’re having a wonderful day.

    • I did not realise that Google would be quite so quick at updating. Originally it was only one link on the first page and that was to the Benedict Cumberbatch | An unexpected meeting story. I suppose things move faster than I imagined in the online world. Thank you for letting me know 🙂

  2. I always wondered of what people expect from meeting a celebrity. What do you need an address for? Personally, I am not even even sure that I would have enough courage to say thank you for Sherlock series, let alone ask for autograph or a picture.

    • I know exactly what you mean, Julie. I actually did meet Mr Cumberbatch after the premier of the second Sherlock series. I found myself there by chance and when I realised what was going on couldn’t resist getting a closer look. By the end of the event I wasn’t so certain that meeting him was a good idea after all.
There is such a great difference between having a chat with a friend who happens to be an actor and having an awkward exchange with an actor who is nothing but a stranger and will never be anything but.
I wrote an article about the experience and the people over at Cumbebatchweb said in reply that he likes meeting his fans, so there is no reason to feel sorry for him (I’m paraphrasing here), but the truth of the matter was that he just looked tired and detached (as I imagine anyone who has to sign hundreds of autographs and pose for photos with strangers would feel, even if it is part of their job.)
Thank you for reading and for your feedback, Julie.
Wishing you a lovely weekend ahead.

  3. I have a good laugh when looking at what people searched for that somehow led them to my blog.

I love Benedict!!!! So you seriously don’t know where I can stalk him? You can PM me the place and I promise to keep it a secret…

    • 🙂 I’m afraid I don’t know Benedict’s whereabouts. But if you love Benedict I think you would enjoy my “Benedict Cumberbatch” category. You are bound to have a few more good laughs at least, even though not in his company for now.
