Between the devil and the deep blue sea.
Head in the unlit stove.
It was no accident.
You meant for it to happen. Why did you?
Refracted silence.
The ring of the telephone in the night,
That gruelling sound reverberating in my stomach
Every time I think of you.
This dread you gifted me.
An idiom in avalanche, reaching for the climax.
A perverse twist of fate that conjoined my lot
To the choreography of sphinxes pulling at your mind.
A compulsive gambler
No more.
I am done with the ephemerid assurance of a mask-strapped face,
Fumbling blindly for the tassels of your cloak until my fingertips wrinkle.
Drowned at the bottom of a glassful of crushed aspirin,
A groundless probabilistic miscalculation,
The scars of desire.

Wow, Vic.
Thank you, Ann. I take it that you liked it.
I did, Vic. I guess I should be more clear!
I’m glad. I’m experimenting with white verse at the moment, and it is reassuring to hear that it’s not falling flat. Thank you, Ann.
It’s the opposite of “falling flat”. It’s rising full.
Then I will keep at it. I feel somewhat out at sea with it, having rhymed for so long. But I am enjoying the challenge. There is a freedom to it too.
Thank you again. I really appreciate your support. Heart-warming.
My pleasure, Vic.

Thank you, iceman. Very much appreciated.
That really is good, Vic
Thank you, Richard. I am touched that you should think so, especially when you write yourself so beautifully in verse.
Two of a kind 😄
You’re too kind 🙂
😄
This piece feels like a punch to the gut. That is high praise, in case it’s unclear.
BB
A punch in the gut. That is certainly rather powerful. Thank you so much, BB.
Your imagery is very powerful.
I appreciate that. Thank you. It is an attempt to paint from without the internal turmoil of the narrator.

Well… I suppose when the theme is regret, it is difficult to make light of things. Thank you, navigator.
