Weeping Angel

weeping angel one

What sorrows hide you from the world?

Angel, why weep you so?

I heard the clockwork as it whirled

In discontinued flow…

Such beauty now by pain inured

Hidden in palms of stone

Your gaze concealed, from all obscured

Tell me, for what atone

These vows of silence, unseen tears?

I heard from tales of old

Subdued by time, in whispered fears

Past lives reach from the cold…

Don’t blink. Don’t even blink.

Don’t dare break the link.

The angels don’t exist

When they are not observed.

If seen, they turn to stone.

But do not turn your back

For they don’t hunt alone.

They lie in wait: one touch

And you’re in time imprisoned.

Their kill will not be reasoned:

They feed on stolen moments,

On your life’s pilfered breath,

On fates undone, on paths untread.

Blink once and you are dead.

    • PS: Sorry if I scared you a little. I have to admit I’m a little scared of what I may dream tonight. There’s not one single other Doctor Who creature that frightens me quite so much.

      • I’m with you on that one. I would take on an entire planet of Daleks before ever facing one angel! The writers of that show really nailed it with those things – gives me the heebie-jeebies just thinking about what could have been their inspiration.

      • Exterminate. Exterminate. ha-ha! Yes the Daleks just don’t compare, however evil they may be. You can talk to a Dalek, even if you can’t necessarily reason with them. What do you say to an angel? It is the way they creep up to you… I watched the Doctor Who confessionals but can’t remember what had inspired them to create the angels. Might have to delve a little deeper. Now you’ve made me curious. 🙂

  3. That’s scary.. but i love it.

“Their kill will not be reason
    They feed on stolen moment”

Like women in love don’t you think?
Hurt us than we will lie silently wait. Because only women in love could kill without reasoned. Or we can imprisoned man in love forever in their memory

      • You’re welcome Vic.. Just the thought that flash in my mind when i was reading your poem. 🙂

      • Thank you for sharing it, sepertibumi. I love the way in which everyone can make poetry their own, that it provokes different feelings and images for every reader. Always wonderful to see it through someone else’s eyes 🙂

      • I would love to, for example the use of words like clockwork and the expression “blink once and you are dead” adulterate a prospective Baroque approach, and I can’t quite place my finger upon it, but as soon as the visualization starts, I am interrupted by a slight offset. Its good, and I am unaware of the thought process you underwent in its genesis, but I am sure that this can be absolutely sublime.

      • Interesting… I chose clockwork in place of any other timepiece because to me it has both an auditive and a visual effect. Time is such an abstract concept that its fluidity is difficult to capture, and I wanted to give it physicality.
The poem has two hearts… a little like the Time Lord whose legend inspired it. 🙂
